Serengeti National Park

1 Tours

Serengeti National Park, located in northern Tanzania, is one of Africa's most renowned wildlife parks, famous for its vast savannahs and incredible animal migrations. The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros) and an array of bird species. Serengeti offers a range of safari activities that make it a top destination for travelers seeking a world-class safari experience.

Things to Do in Serengeti National Park:

  1. Game Drives and Safari Adventures:

Serengeti is famous for its game drives, offering visitors the chance to see an incredible array of wildlife up close. The park’s open plains make it ideal for safaris, with sightings of large herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, lions, and cheetahs. Early morning and late afternoon drives offer the best opportunities for wildlife viewing.

Witness the Great Migration:

The Serengeti is world-famous for hosting the Great Migration, a spectacular, year-round movement of over 1.5 million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of zebras, and thousands of gazelles. This ancient cycle of survival—guided by rainfall and fresh grazing—draws visitors from all over the world to witness nature’s most thrilling theatre.

At Antique Safari Adventures, we know the Serengeti like the back of our hand. We follow the migration’s rhythm and position you at the right place at the right time, whether you dream of seeing the drama of river crossings or the tenderness of new life in the calving season.

When and Where to Witness the Migration:

    • January – March (Southern Serengeti / Ndutu):
Calving season begins. Over 500,000 wildebeest are born, drawing intense predator activity from lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. It’s raw, wild, and unforgettable.
    • April – May (Central & Western Serengeti):
The herds move slowly northwest. While rainfall makes the park lush, game viewing remains excellent, with fewer crowds and dramatic scenery.
    • June – July (Western Corridor):
Wildebeest face their first major obstacle—the Grumeti River, where large crocodiles wait. This is the start of the migration’s most adrenaline-filled chapters.
    • August – October (Northern Serengeti / Mara River):
The iconic Mara River crossings take place. Thousands plunge into crocodile-infested waters as predators stalk the banks. Expect drama, dust, and pure excitement.
    • November – December (Returning South):
The herds begin their return to the southern plains, setting the stage for the next calving season.
  1. Hot Air Balloon Safaris:
    • For a truly unforgettable experience, take a hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti. Floating high above the plains at sunrise, this gives visitors a bird’s-eye view of the wildlife below. Balloon safaris are a unique way to take in the vast landscapes and witness the beauty of the Serengeti from a different perspective.
  2. Serengeti Birdwatching:
    • Serengeti is home to over 500 bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. From raptors soaring above the savannah to colorful ground birds, the park offers exceptional birding opportunities throughout the year.
