Uganda – Forests and Mountains

• Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Trek through steep, misty jungle trails for a once-in-a-lifetime mountain gorilla encounter. Bwindi’s dense canopy and rugged terrain create a dramatic backdrop for intimate wildlife experiences in Uganda’s UNESCO World Heritage Site.

• Kibale Forest

Renowned as Uganda’s primate capital, Kibale offers guided chimpanzee tracking hikes through tropical hardwood forests alive with red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and a rich diversity of birds.

• Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Home to both gorillas and golden monkeys, Mgahinga also offers a thrilling Mount Sabyinyo hike. This extinct volcano’s rugged trail involves ladders to reach its summit at 3,669m, where Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo converge, offering panoramic views across all three countries.

• Rwenzori Mountains – Mountains of the Moon

For high-altitude adventure, the Rwenzori Mountains offer multi-day technical treks through bamboo forests, heather zones, and Afro-alpine landscapes to Margherita Peak (5,109m), Africa’s third highest summit. • Mount Elgon

Located in Eastern Uganda, Mount Elgon (4,321m) features the world’s largest volcanic caldera. Hikes here pass waterfalls, caves, and hot springs before reaching Wagagai Peak, offering sweeping views across Uganda and into Kenya.

Rwanda – Volcanic Crater Hikes

• Mount Bisoke

Rising to 3,711m in Volcanoes National Park, Mount Bisoke’s day hike leads through bamboo forests to its stunning crater lake at the summit. Along the trail, hikers may encounter golden monkeys and enjoy panoramic views into Rwanda and the DRC.

Kenya – Alpine Peaks and Glacial Valleys
